The Chemistry of Federal Financial Assistance
A field guide to federal assistance.
Open camsmith.xyz/grants ↗Every federal assistance program has a listing number, and its first two digits name the agency. The Chemistry of Federal Financial Assistance lays the agencies out like a periodic table and shows where their programs meet: at the same recipients, under the same statute, or in the same audit cluster. Below the table, each kind of recipient has its mixture: the programs that land together in its single audits, how they are woven, and the compliance requirements they bring.
Claude built the page and drafted its symbols at my request. The counts come from public data: SAM.gov assistance listings, Federal Audit Clearinghouse single audits from 2016 to 2025, the 2025 Compliance Supplement, and the Census Bureau's list of governments.
